Field investigations

Field investigations, designed to identify constraints and opportunities, will continue to be undertaken at various stages during the study period. Some of the key factors that need to be assessed are:

  • What effect would various designs have on the environment?
  • What are the potential benefits and costs in terms of economic, social, environmental, and functional issues associated with various designs?

The entire study area was assessed initially, and more detailed field investigations have been undertaken focusing on the concept design that has been developed. Investigations have considered:

  • Road safety.
  • Traffic and transport.
  • Topography, geology and soils.
  • Land use.
  • Social and community issues.
  • Noise, vibration and air quality.
  • Plants and animals.
  • Water quality, flood management and drainage.
  • Economic issues.
  • Visual amenity and landscape character.
  • Indigenous and non-indigenous heritage.
  • Statutory planning requirements.
