Project background

In March 2000, the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) began planning a dual carriageway upgrade of the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah.

The preferred option was announced in November 2001 and environmental impact assessment studies began in December 2001. A concept design was developed as a result of extensive discussions with key stakeholders including the Bulahdelah community. An environmental impact statement  and a species impact statement were prepared to describe the concept design and examine the environmental impacts and were on display for community comment from Wednesday 24 November 2004 until Friday 28 January 2005.
