Environmental assessment

The preferred concept requires approval under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) (EP&A Act).

Under this legislation the proposal is subject to an environmental assessment that examines the potential impacts of the preferred concept.

The focus of the Part 3A assessment is to ensure that the community is consulted and an environmental assessment is undertaken. This assessment focuses on the key issues that the Department of Planning and other agencies identified as important to evaluate the proposal, including potential social, economic or environmental impacts.

The effects of the changes to the EP&A Act are described in the RTA's Environmental Assessment - Part 3A fact sheet.

The environmental assessment was prepared based on the assessment requirements issued by the Director-General of the Department of Planning. The environmental assessment was publicly exhibited from 20 February to 31 March 2008.

Submissions on the environmental assessment were received until 31 March 2008. The environmental assessment submissions report was lodged with the NSW Department of Planning on Friday 4 July 2008.

Details of the environmental assessment, the refined design and the environmental assessment submissions report can be found on the Public information section of this website.
