Background

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is planning improvements to the safety of both of the intersections of Croudace Street with Mitchell Avenue, Pride Avenue and Chilcott Street, Lambton.

Background

In January 2008 the RTA issued a community update outlining proposed safety and traffic improvements to the intersections of Croudace Street with Mitchell Avenue, Pride Avenue and Chilcott Street, Lambton.

Comments were invited on the proposal and in response to the community feedback received, the proposal has been revised.

The revised proposal includes the following new features:

  • Retention of the existing south bound right turn into Chilcott Street from Croudace Street.
  • Retention of the existing No Right Turn from Croudace Street into Pride Avenue.
  • Retention of the existing right turn storage bay for the right turn into Howe Street from Croudace Street.
  • Retention of the existing parking arrangements on both sides of Croudace Street to the north of Pride Avenue.
  • Retention of the existing lane widths and alignment on Croudace Street north of Pride Avenue.

The following features have been retained from the original proposal:

Croudace Street at Mitchell Avenue and Pride Avenue

  • Installation of new traffic signals.
  • Provision of right turn bays with signalised control for the right turn into Mitchell Avenue from Croudace Street.
  • Retention of two through lanes on Croudace Street in both directions.
  • Retention of all existing turn movements at both Mitchell Avenue and Pride Avenue.
  • Provision of signal controlled pedestrian crossings for all movements across Croudace Street, Mitchell Avenue and Pride Avenue.
  • Retention of existing bus stops.

Croudace Street at Chilcott Street

  • Restriction of right turn into Chilcott Street from Croudace Street in the north bound direction.
  • Restriction of the movement across Croudace Street at Chilcott Street in both direction.
  • Retention of the left in and left out movements at Chilcott Street in both directions.
  • Retention of the existing pedestrian refuge.

Benefits

Works at these intersections will provide:

  • Improved safety for motorists by controlling turning and through traffic conflicts with traffic signals.
  • Enhanced pedestrian safety, by providing traffic signal control.
