As part of the Great Western Highway upgrade at Wentworth Falls East, it is planned to widen the existing two lane highway to a four lane divided highway from east of Tableland Road to Station Street.
The plan for this section of highway upgrade was approved in late 2006 and the detailed design work is well advanced.
The new four lane section will have an improved alignment, be divided by a raised median and include a shared path to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Community consultation
A Review of Environmental Factors and concept design were placed on public display from May to June 2006.
An information day was held on Saturday 3 June 2006 to discuss the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors at the Grand View Hotel in Wentworth Falls.
Community submissions closed on Friday 23 June 2006 and the Review of Environmental Factors was approved on 27 October, 2006. Detailed design work for the project then commenced.
On 29 March, 2008 an information day was held at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts to update members of the community on progress of the project and answer questions.
The RTA will continue to consult with Blue Mountains City Council and the local community to ensure that the needs of highway users, the local community and businesses are met.
What happens next
The RTA is now working on a detailed design for the project. On completion of the detailed design the RTA will call tenders for construction.
Site investigations are currently taking place as part of pre-contract works and drainage works are planned to start in August 2008 and take approximately four months to complete.
