The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is continuing with the corridor investigations and development of route options to improve the main road network between the intersection of Manns Road and Narara Creek Road at Narara and the intersection of Railway Crescent and Pacific Highway at Lisarow.
The RTA has engaged Hyder Consulting to assist with the investigations and develop potential route options which would provide an upgraded road between Narara and Lisarow with two travel lanes in each direction separated by a median.
The RTA together with the community needs to examine route options in order to identify a preferred route.
Project progress update
The RTA is in the currently investigating constraints and opportunities associated with a number of options within the study area. Studies are underway looking at geotechnical, flooding, ecological, heritage, land use, traffic, transport, noise and vibration issues.
Decisions in relation to this project will influence the proposed option for the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Railway Crescent. Feedback about this intersection has been received and further design options are being developed. The display of options for this intersection, including options for Dora Street access will be developed once a preferred route for Narara to Lisarow has been determined.
The objectives of the proposal are to:
- Improve safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians by reducing the number of crashes.
- Increase traffic capacity and improve the performance of the link by reducing congestion.
- Improve accessibility for all road user groups by providing appropriate access treatments.
- Minimise impact on the environment by being sensitive to surrounding land uses.
- Provide the best value for money solution by maximising benefits to road users.
What investigations are being undertaken between Narara and Lisarow?
Corridors in which route options are being developed are on both the eastern and western sides of the Main Northern Railway Line. The corridors are called:
- Pacific Highway corridor.
- Narara Valley corridor.
To view the corridors under investigation click here.
Over recent months Hyder and their sub-contractors have undertaken field studies including surveys, drilling of bore holes to test the soil, flora and fauna studies, traffic studies, bridge and drain inspections, and other environmental and engineering studies. These field studies have been undertaken on both of the corridors.
These studies have been used to help identify potential route options and additional investigations may be required in order to develop route options and identify a preferred route. Some field studies may be needed on private property. We will coordinate visits to individual properties as much as possible to minimise disruption.
No work will be undertaken on private property without prior permission.
Please phone 1800 625 676 if you have any questions regarding the field studies.
Involving the community
Phase 1 - project investigations and looking at the corridors
Community information workshops 8 July 2009
On Wednesday 8 July 2009, the RTA held two information workshop sessions in order to outline the reasons behind the need to upgrade the main road network, explain how the corridors were identified, discuss the findings of the field studies and to share the community’s views on what is important about the natural and built environment.
Copies of the RTA presentation, meeting notes and output arising from the group discussion sessions are available for download below.
Narara to Lisarow – Involving the community in this process
The RTA is committed to:
- Providing information.
- Seeking your views and opinions.
- Have community input to comparing options to select a preferred option.
- Being transparent about this process.
