The Central Coast's major road route, including The Entrance Road, was officially re-named the Central Coast Highway on the 9 August 2006.
Premier Morris Iemma and Minister for the Central Coast and Member for The Entrance Grant McBride unveiled the first of about 90 signs that officially re-names a 50km route from Kariong to Doyalson as the Central Coast Highway. The highway connects Kariong and Doyalson via The Entrance over a distance of some 50 kilometres. Kariong to Gosford (previously the Pacific Highway)
This section of road has been renamed as the Central Coast Highway. For this section only street addresses for residences and businesses have changed from the Pacific Highway to Central Coast Highway.
Gosford to The Entrance and Doyalson (The Entrance Road,/Wilfred Barrett Drive/Budgewoi Road/Scenic Drive)
Roads from Gosford to Doyalson will retain their names with signs denoting the ‘Central Coast Highway’ added along the route to guide motorists unfamiliar with the region. There will be no change to street addresses for this location.
This route carries 11 different local street names, and while those names remain, badging it as the Central Coast Highway has made navigation and directions easier.
Labelling the Central Coast’s major travel route is of great benefit to local tourism operators and visitors to the region, particularly those who visit the beachside suburbs, and those who have to navigate a series of connecting roads to reach their destination.
The new, prominent signage has created a defined route through the Central Coast.
