The north-west is one of Sydney’s fastest growing regions. The upgrading of Old Windsor and Windsor roads have major benefits for local communities, freight operators, tourists, through traffic and public transport by meeting the existing and future needs of this burgeoning region.
Public transport
The upgrade provides bus priority measures at all signalised intersections along Old Windsor and Windsor roads. The upgrade also allows priority for the Blacktown to Parklea and Parramatta to Rouse Hill bus-only T-ways where they travel adjacent to roads.
Cyclists and pedestrians
Cyclists and pedestrians also benefit from the Windsor Road upgrade from a purpose-built, three metre wide cycleway/footpath from Parramatta to Windsor. This off-road path now connects with other local bicycle networks, including the 39km-long cycleway along the Westlink M7.
The Parramatta to Windsor cycleway was completed in December 2006 when the last section of Windsor Road to be upgraded, from Mile End Road to Boundary Road, was opened to traffic.
