Why the North Kiama Bypass is needed

The North Kiama Bypass will benefit the community by:

  • Reducing the number of road accidents, particularly along the Minnamurra Bends and Bombo Hill.
  • Bypassing Kiama's northern suburbs to improve local access, safety and enhancing North Kiama as a unified residential area.
  • Removing heavy vehicles from North Kiama's suburbs.
  • Removing highway traffic in residential streets in Bombo, Kiama Downs and Minnamurra.
  • Reducing travel times and congestion, especially on Sunday afternoons when large numbers of visitors to the south coast return to Sydney.

What happens next?

Construction of the final stage of the North Kiama Bypass started in November 2003. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2005.

The RTA will inform the community of on-going construction activities and potential disruptions through advertisements and newsletters.
