Avoca Drive has been upgraded from The Entrance Road to Bayside Drive at Green Point.
Background
Avoca Drive is the key route linking the residential suburbs of Kincumber, Avoca, Copacabana, MacMasters Beach and Green Point with the commercial areas of Erina and Gosford.
Over 26,000 vehicles use this section of Avoca Drive each day. There is currently one lane in each direction on Avoca Drive between The Entrance Road and Sun Valley Road.
The project
The upgrade of Avoca Drive provides an additional lane in each direction between The Entrance Road and Sun Valley Road.
Providing the additional lanes has eliminated the traffic merging from The Entrance Road, improving traffic flow and encouraging better use of the upgraded intersection at Avoca Drive and The Entrance Road.
Construction commenced in November 2006 and opened to traffic in December 2007.
Features
Two lanes in each direction between The Entrance Road and Sun Valley Road.
Opposing traffic has been separated by a raised median to improve safety.
Widened shoulders in both directions and a shared footpath/cycleway on the eastern side have provided improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians along the corridor.
Benefits
Improved safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Improved use of both turning lanes at the intersection of The Entrance Road and Avoca Drive further reducing delays and travel times.
