Further improvements to bus-based public transport operations on Pittwater Road are planned as part of the roll-out of strategic bus corridors across the Sydney metropolitan area.
It is proposed to install red bus lanes in the kerbside lane of Pittwater Road between Dee Why Parade, Dee Why, and Waterloo Street, Narrabeen – a distance of about 5 km.
Work is scheduled to start in late May 2007 and the project will be implemented in stages over a four-month period.
Converting the kerbside lanes to bus lanes will enhance bus service reliability, encourage greater use of bus services and preserve capacity for increasing the share of peak-hour journeys made on public transport, as outlined in the NSW Government’s State Plan.
Scheduled works
Southbound
Northbound
Implementation of the proposed bus lanes will not affect on-street parking arrangements, kerb alignment or access to property.
Under NSW law, general traffic is permitted to travel in a bus lane for up to 100 metres to:
Enter or leave a property adjacent to the bus lane.
Turn left or right into a street.
Pass another vehicle that has stopped to turn right.
Some night work will be required. Noise and odours may occur during installation of the red bus lanes, but every effort will be made to ensure that these effects are minimised.
Advance warning signs will be put in place to alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions during construction.
