Paraprofessionals

Paraprofessionals work full-time in a rewarding job, while studying part-time. As a Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) paraprofessional, you'll undertake self-directed study including distance and face-to-face education, team-based projects, project analysis and reporting, and limited blocks of residential study.

Paraprofessionals work alongside RMS qualified engineers and professionals in project teams to develop skills and experience. After your four-year program you'll not only have a qualification you'll have years of quality work behind you.

As an RMS Paraprofessional you:

There are several areas for paraprofessional work, each with a clear career path and structured training and development program.

Road designer in training

Road designers in training work full-time with experienced RMS designers while they study towards an Associate Degree in Engineering. Road designers in training use computer-based programs to help create strategic, concept and detailed designs for road projects such as motorways, roundabouts and intersections.

It's an exciting and rewarding role which goes to the heart of RMS work for the community.

Traffic Operations Officer in training

This program gives participants the skills needed to support crucial operations in RMS high-tech Transport Management Centre. While studying towards an Electrical Engineering qualification, you will gain hands-on experience in managing the NSW road network. From special events planning and management, to assisting in analysing traffic flows, this is a challenging opportunity to work in an exciting and growing field.

Computer Systems Officer in training

In this program you will study Electrical Engineering while working with the Transport Management Centre to install, maintain and develop hardware and software systems. This includes working on RMS' range of cutting-edge systems which control incidents and traffic, our network of closed circuit televisions, web-based systems and more.

Property Officer in training

Property Officers in training will study towards an Associate Degree in Spatial Science (Geographic Information Systems) whilst working with the property services division at RMS where you will gain experience in managing, acquiring and disposing of RMS property portfolio and developing property solutions to meet clients needs and budget.
