Every day is different and every project is important in this crucial area of Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority).
Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) is the leading Government agency in NSW for road safety. To manage this enormous area of work, we have roles for policy professionals, engineers, behavioural scientists, educators, researchers, planners, psychologists and people with backgrounds in political or social science and health.
Why work here?
If you're looking for challenging work in an area which supports professional development, this is an area to consider. In Road Safety we really do make a difference - our efforts are directed totally to saving people's lives and reducing the impact of road trauma on the community.
Our premise is that drivers make mistakes, and we work to minimise the potential impact of these mistakes. Our efforts are devoted to safer people, safer roads, safer vehicles and technologies to improve road safety.
What's involved?
This area is home to the NSW Centre for Road Safety - the peak body for road safety in NSW. The centre supports and conducts research and develops and implements State-wide road safety strategies, policies and programs and promotes Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) leadership at state and national levels to reduce the trauma and cost of road casualties to the community.
Here are just a few of our initiatives:
- Working to understand driver behaviour.
- Looking at opportunities to improve motorist behaviour in relation to drink/drug behaviour and speeding.
- Testing and implementing new technologies that help drivers understand and modify their behaviour.
- Leading Australia in strategies for child road safety, including providing award-winning educational resources for schools.
- Statistical analysis and trend analysis for any emerging changes.
