
The Customer and Regulatory Services Directorate is one of Roads and Maritime Services' (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) largest, which is not surprising when you consider its role.
This area is responsible for developing and implementing the full range of strategies, services, policies and programs for the management of drivers and vehicles. We manage the motor registry network, tolling on NSW roads, the extensive camera enforcement system and compliance programs for light and heavy vehicles.
We have roles for policy professionals, business analysts, customer contact staff, operation managers and staff, product developers, project managers and investigators, who look at breaches of heavy vehicles regulations.

This is a diverse area which aims to implement emerging technologies to improve customer service, strengthen document verification services, improve road safety and the enforcement of road rules and regulations, develop legislation to better manage drivers, vehicles and freight, and shape policy in key state and national areas.
What's involved?
The directorate has ninebranches - Customer and Regulatory Services, Business Strategy, Driver and Vehicle Policy, Freight, Strategic Progeam Implementation, Customer Service, Compliance and Enforcement, Sanctions and Prosecutions, and Tolling.
We are also responsible for three national functions - National Transport Policy, the Austroads Registration and Licensing Program, and the Austroads Freight Program.
To give you some idea of the scope of our work, here are some of our recent achievements:
- Creation of a new specialist Proof of Identity Unit to protect customer identity
- Launch of the Clean Fleet program to reduce vehicle emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment
- Implementation of state-of-the-art tolling systems and camera enforcement technology
- Using satellite-based technology to monitor vehicles on the road network and managing heavy vehicle compliance
- Auctioning ‘Limited Release’ rare number plates, raising more than $4 million for Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) projects
