
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) offers four-year trade apprenticeships for:
- Bridge and wharf carpenters
Carpenters build, install, finish and repair timber and metal structures and fixtures including bridges and other civil engineering projects. - Fitters
Fitters assemble and fit parts and sub-assemblies made from metal and other materials to make production machinery and other equipment. They repair or replace defective parts and check for accuracy and quality. - Metal fabricators (Boilermaker)
Fabricators cut, shape, assemble and join metal parts to produce or repair containers such as boilers and storage tanks. They use hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal working machines. - Painters
Painters apply paint, varnish and other finishes to exterior and interior surfaces. They remove old paint, prepare surfaces, erect scaffolding and work out the quantity of materials needed for particular jobs. - Plant mechanics
Plant mechanics repair, maintain and test heavy vehicles, plant items, engines and related mechanical components. They use oxy, electric, MIG welding, hand fitting and machinery processes to replace or repair faulty parts. - Plumbers
Plumbers lay out, install, test and maintain pipes, fixtures, fittings, and maintain and repair piping and plumbing systems. They also install, adjust and maintain water services and fire services. - Systems electricians
Systems electricians install, maintain, repair, test and commission electrical and electronic equipment and systems. They read electrical, architectural and mechanical diagrams and plan the layout of wiring systems. - Traffic signal technicians
Traffic signal technicians maintain, build, repair and modify traffic signals and control equipment.
