Road Freight Advisory Council

Objective

The objective of the NSW Road Freight Advisory Council (RFAC) is to assist in identifying and delivering freight solutions that will meet the needs of the NSW and Australian community and economy.

Solutions and strategies identified by the RFAC are to be built on a foundation of:

  • Improving safety management and outcomes in the freight and logistics segment
  • Better integrating road network access and road asset management issues
  • Delivering strong compliance assurances for the benefits of the community, local governments and the road transport and logistics industries.

Authority

Membership is by personal invitation from the Minister for Roads.

Membership

The council includes executives and leaders with a strong understanding of safety and efficiency issues in freight transport and logistics, including linkages between road freight and other modes, the role of freight in country NSW, the new technologies entering the market and workforce issues facing the freight industry.

Members are appointed on an individual basis, not as representatives of any organisation.

Meetings

Meetings are chaired by Roads and Maritime Services Chief Executive Mr Peter Duncan.

Although meetings are held privately, briefings and presentations from outside parties are sometimes received at the invitation of Council.

Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) provides administrative support to the Council.

The Council is complemented by the Transport Operations Liaison Group, which includes key industry organisations and several sub-committees that are formed from time to time to address specific areas of interest.

Submissions

Submissions are generally confidential but may be made public, depending on the circumstances.
